It’s a New Day

It’s a New Day

Lamentations 3:22-23, “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.”

It’s a new day. Jeremiah tells us in Lamentations 3 that with each new day comes with new mercy. Because the faithful love of the Lord never ends, his mercies are available each new day. If the Lord woke you up today then those mercies are available to you. What a gift. What a blessing. God never tires of distributing his mercy to the people he created.

Not only that, but that mercy is available to EVERY person on planet earth. His mercy is not just for the “righteous” it is also available to the “sinner.” It begins afresh each morning for those who have walked with God for years and for those who cry out to him for the first time. His mercy is NOT connected to our status in this world but it IS connected to your status in God’s heart. If you question what your status in God’s heart might be, look back to the verse above…The faithful love of the Lord never ends.

What happened yesterday may still have implications for today, no doubt actions have consequences, but with each new day, there is another opportunity to lay all that “was” down at the feet of Jesus and start again. Taking hold of his mercy may not always change the circumstances you find yourself in, but it will change you. So will you take hold of these mercies?

One last thing, if the mercies of the Lord are available every new day to every person, then could it be time for you to offer that mercy to someone else as well? Have you been holding on to a hurt? Have you been holding the grudge? Have you been withholding forgiveness until someone asks for it? Let me suggest that with this new day, you offer the mercy God has offered you to someone else. Easier said than done, for sure, but nothing is impossible with the great faithfulness of God!

Have a great week.
