THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS
Jesus was an expert in taking the initiative in talking with people. He knew how to talk to people and from there he taught people about their need for salvation. Jesus met people in their own turf and establish a common ground with others. In the book of John chapter 4:7 Jesus asked a woman from Samaria for a drink “will you give me a drink?” In the following verses and till verse 42 we see how the woman runs into town and tells others about Jesus. What was the result? What started with Jesus by asking a drink to this woman. Ends like this in verse 42 “They said to the woman, “we no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
TWO NEW FAMILIES
In the last few weeks we have had a couple of families that have been visiting us for bible study and worship. It has been a delight to get to meet these two new families. We are getting to know them more and more and they are very interested in learning more about the word of God. They are excited about the faith boulevard program for their children and for the Spanish speaking congregation. One of these families moved from California to Decatur and are adapting to the life in Alabama. We are very happy to have these two families and hope they will be converted soon.
WHAT IT TOOK FOR THESE FAMILIES TO START ATTENDING WORSHIP: PHONE CALL #1
A few weeks ago, I received a phone call from one of the members from the English-speaking congregation at Beltline. He told me that he has a new neighbor, and that neighbor was Hispanic. He said that these new neighbors were very friendly and very family oriented. He called me and asked me to call them and invite them to church. I called this new family, and they were very friendly over the phone. We talked about what we do at church and how their children could benefit from the bible classes. They came the following Sunday, and they have not stopped coming. I am thankful for this member from Beltline who saw the opportunity to talk abut Jesus. Because this member from Beltline did not remain silent about his faith now this family is learning about Jesus and how to be saved.
PHONE CALL #2
A few weeks ago, I got another call from one of the members from the English-speaking congregation. He said that his house was being painted. He said that the painters were Hispanic. He said that one of the painters seemed very interested in speaking about the church. This painter spoke about how he grew up in a denominational church in his country. This member from Beltline called me and ask if could stop by and say hi to this painter. I stopped by his house and the painter took about thirty-minute break to speak with me. We spoke about baptism, Lords supper and other questions he had. He said he would like to visit us. He did come to visit us about ten days later and he has not stopped coming to worship with us. He is very interested in learning more about the church. He is already talking to his family who lives in another country about his experiences at Beltline.
It is incredible what God can do if we just open our mouths and invite people to church. God opens doors right in front of us so we can invite people to church. Let’s take every opportunity to talk about Jesus. Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
