A Trip Back in Time

A Trip Back in Time

WHAT WE SAW

Steve, Trae and I had a very productive trip last week. Every single night after we shared the Word of God with the local congregations, they had a fellowship meal. As soon as we had the last prayer the whole congregation started taking the chairs and pews outside so they can eat together. Only a few were able to get a table to eat and the great majority did not, but nobody minded; they were just happy spending time together.

To see the children, the youth the young adults and the adults sharing a meal and being happy made me remember the Christians in the first century. It reminded me of the scripture in Acts 2:46-47 “Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved”.

HUNGRY FOR THE WORD OF GOD

As soon as we finished the last lesson in each place where we went, they asked us if we could come back again and visit them so we could share the Word of God again. Those congregations where we were not able to visit, they ask us to include them in our list for the next trip. One could see the genuine hunger and desire to hear the Word of God. At the time of our trip, we brought to them lessons focused for the men and women, but one area we saw that we need to share; and that is the youth.

The future of the church is right there in that youth, and they want to learn more about the word of God. I see the future of the church very bright in the Yucatan Peninsula because the number of believers in each congregation continues to grow in the churches that have been planted.

THE ROLE OF BELTLINE

The Beltline church of Christ in Decatur has had a very important role in helping in the growth of the churches of Christ in that area. For more than twenty years, Beltline has been traveling to the Yucatan and providing medical care, VBS, building pews, airtime in a radio program and most recently lessons that will be beneficial for their spiritual growth.

Beltline is the only congregation from the United States that has given their time and love to the Christians in the Yucatan, Peninsula. The feeling can be seen when the local brothers greet the members of Beltline each time we arrive in their congregations, their smiles and thankfulness is clearly seen.
